McKenzie Kil-A-BytesAwardsEngineering InspirationTeam 1024 meets at the McKenzie Career Center. The team is composed of students, teachers, and mentors from mainly Lawrence North High School and Lawrence Central High School, but has also had members from Cathedral, Franklin Central High School, and Hamilton Southeastern High School. We realized that there were many schools outside our area that wanted to get involved, but didn't have the resources to start their own team. As a result, we have invited all those schools to join us, providing a large variety of schools represented on our team. We figured it would be difficult to send out applications to all those schools and have them back in a timely manner. So, we decided to implement an online application on our website. This allows students from all around the community to have the opportunity to share the experience. To spread awareness about what we do here at McKenzie, we send out Video Ads to the participating schools. We include pictures from the previous season and encourage people to join our team. These videos are played over the announcements and have resulted in many new members. One of the most exciting things we do during the season is host the Indiana Robotics Invitational at Lawrence North High School during the summer. This competition attracts lattention from teams around the world. We hosted a few teams from California and even one from Israel last year, along with dozens of teams from around the area. This has been a great success so far, and we hope to see similar results in future Invitationals. The McKenzie Robotics team also hosts a technology camp each summer for middle school kids in the community. It is a really exciting experience for us as hosts, and the kids involved. Participants work with Team 1024 members in small groups to build VEX robots. A competition is held at the end of the camp and has provided many positive experiences in engineering, science and technology. Our team takes advantage of any opportunity to showcase what we've done here at McKenzie. We take our robots from previous years, along with our current one if possible, to local places. This is always an exciting opportunity for our team's publicity. We've gone to Museums, schools, assorted community events, and more. We invite many people to see what we're doing, and it has resulted in many sponserships. We are very excited about our upcoming season here at McKenzie. We will be participating in quite a few regionals, and hopefully get a chance to go to Atlanta again this year. The local events, camps, and our regional are expected to bring the same great results we are used to. Go Kil-A-Bytes! Created by the McKenzie Kil-A-Bytes Web Team: Contact the webmaster |
