McKenzie Kil-A-BytesAwardsMotorola QualityThe Motorola Quality award was created to celebrate machine robustness in concept and fabrication. The McKenzie Robotics team has focused on making this a reality through our in-house fabrication tools as well as the choice of materials and design that will make sure our robot this year proves to be extremely robust and durable. In-House FabricationOur team has always sported extremely sleek robots. Much of this can be attributed to the sponsorship of Aircom Manufacturing, who have provided our team with sheet metal work and powder coating. Nevertheless, the cons of having our parts made outside of McKenzie include issues of time, which has helped make our team very punctual in finalizing designs. This year, our robot will be even more sleek than in the past, much thanks to the in-house fabrication methods that we now have. For instance, we have always been the proud owners of an FDM Machine, which allows us to make just about any piece out of plastic. Over the last year, though, we've added a few new tools to our fabrication room, including a tube bender and a plasma cutter. These two tools in addition to the FDM have given our team an amazing new capacity to make custom pieces for our robot. Robust Robot FeaturesOur robot has been designed to be a fast, efficient, scoring machine. For instance, we have kept nearly all of our weight literally a few inches off the ground. The frame of our robot is made from bent aluminum tubing, which offers incredible strength for minimal weight, keeping our center of gravity extremely low. Also, our custom chassis (thanks to Aircom) and our other sheet metal parts, made on our own plasma cutter, give us extreme control to make sleek, weight saving designs. All of our strides in concept and fabrication have allowed us to produce a high-quality robot that will compete in this year's game. Because of these strides, we will again be able to compete in all parts of the game, and have success in most ventures.
